Data Backup
How often we back up critical customer data, where backups are stored, how they are encrypted, and how long they are retained.
Last reviewed: July 2026
This page describes how Risely backs up operational and other critical data. All original (non-derived) critical data in our possession and operated on by us is backed up.
How we back up data
- We perform automated backups of all critical customer data.
- Database disk snapshots are taken automatically on at least a weekly basis and are stored within our Google Cloud Platform environment in the United States.
- All snapshots are encrypted at rest using AES-256 (Google Cloud default encryption).
- Snapshots are retained on a rolling basis of at least four weeks.
For data stored with and processed by our vendors, our Vendor Management Policy describes how the availability of critical data is managed.
Deleting backups
If a database instance is intentionally deleted in order to achieve a business objective, all associated backups are also deleted. Database backups may only be deleted by the system administrators of our infrastructure account.
Restoration testing
We perform a backup restoration test at least annually and document the results.
